The Share Now car sharing service was hacked to Chicago, Brad Edwards, CBS Chicago reporter says on Twitter.
Nearly 100 Mercedes-Benz luxury vehicles and others have disappeared or have been stolen. A number of these vehicles have been involved in criminal activity, said Edwards, and more than 12 people are in custody.
A representative of Share Now said the service had been temporarily suspended in Chicago "for prudence".
"Share Now (formerly car2go) is currently working with law enforcement to neutralize a fraud problem," said the representative. "No personal or confidential information about the members has been compromised."

A representative of the Chicago Police Department said that the department did not have any information to share on the subject yet.
Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, and BMW have merged their car-sharing services, formerly known as car2go and DriveNow, in February. The companies also announced partnership projects that, in addition to carpooling, would involve the use of chairlifts, charging electric vehicles and other mobility technologies and services. Together, Daimler and BMW will invest $ 1.1 billion in this partnership.
