A severe meteorological threat settles in the Great South and threatens the East Coast during the holiday weekend

Heavy storms swept through the central United States from Texas to Iowa on Wednesday, resulting in seven reported tornadoes – four in Texas alone.

Overall, there were 130 hail storm reports in Oklahoma, some reaching the size of a baseball, and high winds reaching 74 mph in Texas.

The line of storms and heavy rains crossed eastern Texas and Arkansas on Thursday morning with severe thunderstorm warnings and vigils in effect.

The storm system will move east over Thursday afternoon to the Gulf Coast and produce more severe thunderstorms accompanied by high winds, tornadoes and large hail.

The tornado threat Thursday is stronger than it was Wednesday, including from Alexandria (Louisiana) to New Orleans and east via Jackson and Biloxi ( Mississippi); Montgomery, Alabama; and in the west of Florida Panhandle.

Friday, the storm system will move on the east coast and the southeast. Severe thunderstorms are expected between Florida and Delaware, as well as heavy rains in the northeast.

The greatest threat will come from Orlando (Florida) to Norfolk (Virginia), with strong winds and isolated tornadoes.

The eastern United States, from the Gulf Coast to the northeast, can expect a lot of rain from this system.

There is a significant flood risk of the river in the center of the Atlantic coast and part of the northeast from Friday to the holiday weekend.

Some areas can receive 3 to 4 inches of rain, which also causes instant flooding.
