The new $ 2,000 Samsung smartphone will not be on sale until next week, but it is already collapsing.
Many technical critics who received the $ 1,980 Galaxy Fold – known for its unique collapsible display as well as its exorbitant price – are now reporting that their the devices break.
Media journalists such as Bloomberg, The Verge and CNBC have all gathered on Twitter to share photos of the loss or breakage of their supposedly flexible screens.
"The screen of my Galaxy Fold exam unit is completely broken and unusable just two days," commented Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman on Wednesday.
A photo of the phone was attached to the tweet with two-thirds of the 7.3-inch screen turned off.
"When I tap the screen with the top of my finger and the nail hits it (very often), it also leaves a seemingly permanent withdrawal," Gurman tweeted shortly thereafter. "There is a very small tear in the top of the hinge and after I stitched it, the screen got worse."
Other tech critics complains of phones with flickering screens.
Several examiners linked the problem to a thin layer of plastic on the screen that they thought was a screen protector, causing them to remove it when they did not have to.
Disturbing criticism comes as The Fold, unveiled in February, prepares to go out in stores next week. It was recently sold for pre-order, said Samsung.
The phone has a 7.3-inch screen the size of a tablet that folds, which allows it to fold to the size of a conventional smartphone with a screen of 4, 6 inches.
Samsung claims that Fold's hinge can handle 200,000 shots. But so far, he seems to be able to withstand just two days.
Samsung did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This is not the first embarrassing launch of the South Korean phone maker. In 2016, the company was forced to suspend sales of its Galaxy Note 7, because the battery of his phone had overheated, caught fire and exploded in the pockets of its customers.
