The end of an era is coming – the mainstream version of the famous BlackBerry Messenger will be closed on May 31, 2019. This announcement comes from a short blog post from Emtek (who manages BBM), titled " Time to say goodbye. " Bad news, indeed.

It was not so long ago, BBM saw a rebirth, or perhaps more properly a rebirth. BlackBerry has attempted to recover a new interest in the service by making it cross-platform. Despite honest efforts, the BBM team recognizes that the world has moved on to other messaging services such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Telegram. Faced with this, they admit a respectable and understandable defeat.

BBM will close for consumers on May 31st. You will no longer be able to access items such as stickers, emoticons and other basic BBM services. You can however. Get a refund for your in-app purchases through the Play Store process and you'll be able to export all your data for download (except for your contacts and feeds). Your DANA balance will remain (which you can access through the DANA app). You will find more answers on this FAQ page.

Note that this does not affect the BBM Enterprise version, which for all practical purposes constitutes a separate application.
