CLEVELAND, Ohio – Browns general manager John Dorsey is in no hurry to honor Duke Johnson's trade request a few weeks ago.
"(Coaches) see it as an essential part of the progression of this offense," Dorsey said at the preparatory press conference on Thursday.
He added that Johnson's request, first reported by cleveland.com, does not change the philosophy of the franchise at the draft April 25-27.
Duke Johnson's representatives asked the Browns to exchange it, a source said.
Johnson's representatives asked the Browns to trade him, said a league source at cleveland.com.
He said that he had been in contact with Johnson's representatives, but that the setback was not at the rendezvous of the voluntary post-season program. He said he did not know if he would be here for the extra minicamp next week.
Here are some other quick results:
* He repeated that he was ready to go to the first round if the right player was there at the right price.
* He acknowledged "there is a benefit" to the fifth year option for the players selected in the first round, which makes it more appealing.
* He said he was proud of the way Kareem Hunt worked inside and outside the building, including in the community.
* As for the video of the defensive lineman of the Mississippi State Secondary Line Player, Jeffery Simmons, showing him hitting a woman, he explained that he was taking these things case by case.
* He added that he expected Chad Thomas, the third round pick in 2018, to "get a lot of playing time this season" in the late defensive rotation.
* He said that Morgan Burnett, recently signed as a free agent, is still a strong security in his eyes. Burnett played a year with the Steelers after spending his first eight seasons with the Packers.
* He said that Odell Beckham Jr. is a professional and that he will understand what he needs to do to prepare for the season with regard to the voluntary program outside of the season, including including OTAs.
