Each year, Time names the 100 most influential personalities in the world, and in 2019, the world of gaming occupies a prominent place on the prestigious list.
The streamer of the Twitch Superstar and YouTuber Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, 27, announced Wednesday her enthusiasm after being selected on the list.
Ninja tweeted, "Insanely honored and speechless to be featured in the top 100 most influential people in the world in @TIME magazine. … love to @TeamJuJu"
Ninja, originally from Detroit, is on the Time list thanks to a JuJu Smith-Schuster nomination. The Pittsburgh Steelers' big receiver was one of the stars, alongside hip-hop artists Drake and Travis Scott, who played at Fortnite Battle Royale with Ninja one night watched by more than 600,000 people.
"I play in the NFL, so you would think I would not be hit by the stars," Smith-Schuster told Time. "But last March, when Drake and Travis Scott and I took part in a Fortnite game with Ninja for the first time, I did not know what to say, I was one of the millions of people around the world who I watched Ninja … playing Fortnite, the famous video game, every day for months and he was unquestionably the best player in the world in this area, something that I had so much respect for both as an athlete and as a fan, he mingled with himself the game and pop culture.
"I've always been a big fan of the video game, but people have seen it as a kid and a waste of time." Ninja has contributed immensely to the credibility of the sport. Ninja day is an absolute legend, and someone to whom we owe a lot to make the game what it is today. "
Ninja has also appeared in a Super Bowl ad and has filmed an Ellen DeGeneres show during one of her Twitch feeds.
