Emtek, partner of the BlackBerry company in 2016, announced today the official closure of the consumer version of BlackBerry Messenger next month. A new messaging app instead of iOS users is about to arrive.

In a blog post, Emtek announced that it would close the consumer version of BlackBerry Messenger on May 31. The company said that although it had tried to make BBM a reality in 2019, users had simply adopted other platforms:
Three years ago, we decided to revitalize BBM Customer Service, one of the most popular instant messaging applications, as a cross-platform service where users can not only discuss and share their experiences, but also consume content and use payment services.
We are committed to making it a reality and we are proud of what we have built to date. The technology industry is however very fluid and, despite our considerable efforts, users have moved on to others as it has proven difficult to sign.
CNET explains that instead of the consumer version of BBM, BlackBerry pushes users to its BBMe service, which is basically BlackBerry Messenger for enterprise users. The BBMe app is available now on Android, and CNET indicates that Emtek is also working on an iOS client. BBMe is free for the first year, then costs $ 2.49 per semester.
BlackBerry Messenger has struggled to compete with iMessage and other messaging platforms for some time. In 2014, BlackBerry criticized iMessage, highlighting five different ways in which BBM has supplanted Apple's messaging platform. Of course, however, these five reasons were not enough to win over consumers.
