Reggie's retirement photo thrills Nintendo fans

Reggie Fils-Aime retired from Nintendo of America this week, ending her 15-year career with the company. When leaving Nintendo, Fils-Aime released a series of farewell messages on his newly created Twitter account – he caught the coveted @ Reggie manage – with pictures of his office and gifts from friends and colleagues. On a photo of Fils-Aime, Nintendo fans are wondering if they have a tease.

Specifically, Nintendo fans think they have just had a look at a new character or character from Retro Studios.

On Wednesday, Fils-Aime published a series of photos of the last event of his retirement. These photos included gifts received by Fils-Aime, including a Mario statue, a working Virtual Boy and a work of art from Retro Studios, developer of the Metroid Prime series and the latest Donkey Kong Country games. . (And yes, this ass-shaped object on the picture is, according to Reggie, a "plastic ass to give."

Fans have noticed something intriguing in the artwork given to Fils-Aime by Retro Studios. Reggie appears next to Metroids, Samus Aran, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong and Dixie Kong. But another character, masked by Reggie's statue, Mario, also appears in the work. All we see is a four-finger robotic hand, apparently giving a wave.

Nintendo fans are perplexed. They do not recognize who owns this hand, which drives a lot to speculate that it is somebody or something that has not been announced. Here is a closer look:

Fueling the speculation that Retro Studios is teasing something (and playing Reggie) is a flickering retweet from one of the studio's creative artists.

One theory frequently put forward is that the mysterious hand belongs to a Federation Force character, signaling a spinoff of Metroid Prime. But Next Level Games has developed this title, not Retro Studios, and the hand just does not fit the design of the combination of Metroid Prime: Strength of the FederationSoldiers.

Nintendo fans on Twitter, Reddit and Resetera forums have also proposed other theories:

• The hand belongs to Teleroboxer, a reference to the boxing game for Virtual Boy;
• Retro Studios is working on a new game Custom Robo, although this series is the domain of the Japanese studio Noise;
• Samus will have a tiny sidekick in Metroid Prime 4, that Retro Studios is developing;
• It's something completely new

Anyway, another perfectly valid theory is "nothing at all", it's an appropriate way for Reggie to finish his career at Nintendo, where he relentlessly fought the fans of the company.
