In 2003, Ubisoft released the cel-shaded first-person shooter XIII (pronounced thirteen) on the GameCube, the PlayStation 2, the Xbox and the PC. Now, a remake of this one-of-a-kind game arrives on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One later this year on November 13th.
For those who have never played it before, it is based on five volumes of a Belgian graphic novel dating back to 1984 (written by Jean Van Hamme with illustrations by William Vance). In the original game, David Duchovny – best known for playing the FBI agent Fox Mulder in X-Files – voiced the protagonist of the game.
Here is a summary of the story of the game:
XIII is a first person shooter in which you play "Thirteen", a talented soldier who has lost his memory and is accused of killing the President of the United States. You wake up wounded and amnesic first on Brighton Beach, the only clue being a small key and a mysterious tattoo bearing the inscription "XIII" next to your collarbone. It's now up to you to look for answers as part of a 34-level solo campaign. Do not worry, you will find the appropriate arsenal of weapons en route. So many questions … so many bullets!
The remake is managed by Microïds and PlayMagic Ltd. The idea is to revive FPS based on stories "absent from the current game landscape", in order to introduce the game to a new generation of players.
As part of this announcement, a launch trailer has been released. Take a look below:
