Instagram could be changing one of the most basic parts of its service: the likes.

New screenshots suggest that the company is testing a way to hide like accounts in Instagram posts. The images found by researcher Jane Manchun Wong reveal Instagram feeds that no longer show the exact numbers. Instead, you see that an article has been liked by some descriptors named "and others".

"We want your subscribers to focus on what you share, not on the number of mentions of your posts," said Instagram in an integrated message explaining the change. "During this test, only the person who has shared an article will see the total number of likes that he gets."

In a statement, an Instagram spokesperson said the feature was not tested "yet", but "exploring ways to reduce pressure on Instagram is something we always think about".

Instagram testing changes so number accounts are compatible with other changes made by the company. Last year, he introduced a tool to help you keep track of the time you spend in the application. And Instagram, which has been criticized for its effects on mental health, has added anti-bullying features.

Similar counts may not seem as problematic as intimidation, but Instagram critics have cited it as one of the aspects contributing to the potential negative effects of the service. Similar accounts can be a source of social pressure, especially for younger users. Not focusing on tastes could make Instagram a little healthier.

It is not clear if this experience will ever be more than one of the company's many tests. Facebook and Instagram are constantly testing new features, many of which are never launched. But, at the very least, it shows that they are look for ways to respond to some of their most severe criticisms.
