Amazon Fire TV offers a truly exceptional multimedia consumer experience. And yet, I do not use it. Why? Well, I'm a big user of YouTube: the classic video service, YouTube TV and, unfortunately, Google has excluded these services from Amazon TV equipment. In a bit of magic, Amazon kept its own main video on Google's Android TV and Chromecast devices. In the end, this hostility has hurt consumers, which is very unfortunate.
Today, Google and Amazon have finally buried the hatchet. YouTube apps arrive on Fire TV, while Prime Video arrives on Android TV and Chromecast. Even Google's Kids YouTube app will come on Amazon's hardware!
"The flagship YouTube app will be the easiest way for users to watch all their favorite YouTube content on Fire TV. Users will be able to connect to their existing YouTube account, access their full library of content, and play videos." in HD HD 4K In addition, standalone YouTube TV and YouTube Kids apps will also be launched later this year on Fire TV and Fire TV Edition smartphones, as appropriate, "said Amazon.
The online bookseller adds: "Integrated Chromecast and Chromecast users, as well as Android TV users, will have easy access to the Prime Video catalog, including Amazon's latest seasons, such as The Wonderful Madame Maisel, Hanna, Homecoming, Bosch, Catastrophe and The Grand Tour, as well as Amazon Original movies such as Donald Glover's Guava Island and Oscar-nominated films such as The Big Sick and Cold War, Prime Video offers users exclusive features such as X-Ray as well as access to 4K titles that come with Prime at no additional cost, with Prime Video users can also rent or buy titles, or choose from over 150 Prime Video channels, including Showtime, HBO , CBS All-Access, Cinemax and STARZ. "
Heather Rivera, Global Head of Product Partnerships at YouTube, provides the following statement.
We're excited to be working with Amazon to launch official YouTube apps on Fire TV devices around the world. With our flagship YouTube experience on Amazon Fire TV, our users have more ways to watch the videos and the creators they like.
Believe it or not, the expensive Apple TV 4K still can not play YouTube videos at 4K. And now, after this announcement, Amazon's more affordable 4K Fire TV hardware will be able to do that. This shows how consumers are the big winners: they can discover YouTube in a premium way without breaking the bank. Most Android TV and Chromecast devices are also cheap. Getting Prime Video on these platforms should therefore prove to be a boon. Unfortunately, the fruits of this new friendship will not be visible for at least two months.
