According to a warrant arrest, Hernandez was attempting to intervene in a family dispute between the murder suspect, Xavier Zamora, 17, and his mother.
"He's just super friendly, made a point to get to know everyone," said a neighbor. "He was a veteran, a civil engineer, he went to the USS, he was a terrific guy, he's just the factor that everyone wanted."
The police are still looking for Zamora.
There were 24 homicides this year.
