As the first year in 2017, Woods played in 40 games for a North Carolina team that was 33-7 and won the national championship. In the second year, he suffered a foot stress fracture and played only 20 games.

"My three years here at UNC have been extraordinary," Woods said on Instagram. "Two regular season championships, a national championship and a group of brothers I would cherish for life."

North Carolina guard, Seventh Woods (0), shoots a pass during the second half of a March 3 game away against Duke.

At the dawn of his junior season, Woods was a candidate for the starting point guardian position of the UNC. He lost to White, a likely freshman in this summer's NBA draw, and averaged 10.8 minutes per game off the bench.

Woods – whose film Hoopmixtape had attracted public attention at the age of 14 – would have entered the 2019-2020 season once again in a hurry to play. On Monday, Cole Anthony, the five star combo guard, has enlisted in North Carolina. A few hours later, four-star guard Anthony Harris also announced his commitment to the Tar Heels.

With the transfer of Woods, six UNC players from the 2018-19 team having reached the Sweet 16 will not be back this fall. Seniors Kenny Williams and Luke Maye graduated, Cameron Johnson used his last year of eligibility and White and Nassir Little, two freshmen, were nominated for the NBA.

"I firmly believe that everything is going for a reason and that the best is yet to come!" Woods said on Instagram.
