The Detroit Lions' long-time quest for a big half-corner to play against Darius Slay is over – again.
The Lions faced Penn State cornerback Amani Oruwariye in the fifth round of the NFL draft on Saturday with No. 146 overall.
Oruwariye was part of the All-Big Ten team in the first season of last season for the Nittany Lions, when he had three interceptions on 11 passes defended.
He should compete for a backup job behind Slay and additions of independent agents Justin Coleman and Rashaan Melvin.
The Lions faced cornerback Teez Tabor in the second round of the 2017 draft, but Tabor has not yet left his mark in the NFL and is already on the list of players.
Oruwariye, 6 feet 2 inches, has a size and length similar to those of Tabor, but ran a much faster dash (4.47 seconds) to the NFL combo. Tabor clocked a time of 4.62 seconds from Florida, when Lions General Manager Bob Quinn said he watched more movies on perspective than anyone else in his assessment story
The Lions retook high school this season, cutting two-fifths of their debutants to Glover Quin and Nevin Lawson and adding Coleman and Melvin to free will and Oruwariye and Will Harris's third-round pick in the project.
