NASHVILLE – West Virginia linebacker David Long has been a productive player at the university and he hopes to do the same in the NFL – with the Titans.
The Titans selected Long in the sixth round (No. 188) of the NFL draft.
He thinks the coach of the former NFL linebacker and current head coach, Mike Vrabel, will help.
"Being able to be coached by Mike Vrabel," said Long, "it's a good thing to be part of. I learned to know more about him at the Senior Bowl because I had a formal interview with the Titans, and to see how he looks at the movies, he's really simple and that's the kind a coach who will try to do you better, and that's what I'm looking forward to. "
Long (5-11, 223) played 34 career games with 31 starts with the Mountaineers, including 12 in 2018.
The Associated Press has long been awarded the second All-America team and was a semi-finalist for the Butkus Award after leading West Virginia with 111 tackles, averaging 9.3 per game. He also led the team in sacks (18) and attempted a defeat (19).
In his three seasons in West Virginia, Long scored 169 tackles, 14 sacks and 40 tackles for a loss.
"I will bring a lot of energy, a lot of instinct and a lot of play capacity, I would say," said Long. "My style of play, I would describe it as instinctive with speed. As a member of the organization and the project (Titans), I am excited about it. "
