Seven years after having acquired it as receiver of the future, the Mets made Travis d'Arnaud their catcher of the past.

Les Mets named Arnaud for a mission Sunday, ending a tough season after Tommy John's surgery.

The 30-year-old has only been 2-of-23 this year since returning, usually replacing Wilson Ramos. The Mets have Tomas Nido and Rene Rivera at Triple-A Syracuse.

Mets fans began to boo the receiver, who was the jewel of the trade with the Blue Jays at the end of 2012, which also attracted Noah Syndergaard for R.A. Dickey.

"They want me to play better," Arnaud said on bird-watching Saturday. "I understand, I have to keep working."
