TALLADEGA, Alabama – A total of eight cars will fall to the back of the field before the start of the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series race at Talladega Superspeedway for unapproved adjustments. An extra car is falling to the rear for a driver change.
The penalties affect Joe Gibbs Racing's four competitors and Roush Fenway Racing's two cars in the Group of Nine.

These teams will fall behind the 40-car pack in laps before the start of Sunday's GEICO 500 (2:00 pm ET, FOX, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). The total list (presented numerically by car number):
- Ryan Newman's Roush Fenway Racing No. 6 Ford, who qualified for 24th Saturday qualifying at Busch Pole.
- Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 Denny Hamlin (Qualified 23)
- The 17th Roush Fenway Racing Ford of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (Qualified Sixth)
- Joe Gibbs Racing # 18 Kyle Busch (qualified 22nd)
- Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota # 19 by Martin Truex Jr. (Qualified 20th)
- Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota No. 20 Erik Jones (Qualified 27th)
- Reed Sorenson Motorsport No. 27 Chevrolet (Qualified 37th)
- Rick Ware Racing's # 51 Cody Ware Ford (qualified 40th)
- Chevrolet No. 62 Beard Motorsports Brendan Gaughan (Qualified 29th)
Gaughan No. 62 will fall to the rear due to the change of pilot. Tyler Reddick went from winning the Xfinity Series race Saturday to qualifying No. 62 in place of Gaughan. Gaughan attended his son's first communion and was not on the track on Saturday.
