Buying a used car is not always the right bargain that most people expect to be it.

On the one hand, the interest rates of used cars are exceptionally high these days. According to data from Edmunds' automotive industry experts, the current average rate is 9.5% on average, the highest ever since 2009.

And if you shop for a used car without knowing which brands and which models to avoid, you risk paying too much, even beyond your interests.

There is an old saying that the best new cars make the best cars ever. Although true from the point of view of performance, this is not always the best advice to give to the buyer.

A little more wisdom is knowing that the most popular new cars are the most expensive used cars, experts told Business Insider. As Matt DeLorenzo, editor of Kelley Blue Book, said: "The smart money zags when everyone zigs."

With that in mind, here are six types of used cars to avoid at all costs.
