A few months ago, PewDiePie's position as the most subscribed YouTuber was jeopardized by the ramp-up of a competing channel called T-Series, which offers mostly Indian music videos. In response to this, PewDiePie and its community created the same "subscribe to PewDiePie" to help YouTuber retain its first place on YouTube. However, some PewDiePie fans have pushed the same "subscribe to PewDiePie" too far, and now PewDiePie calls himself at the end of the same.
"I think it's time to end the move or meme of" subscribe to PewDiePie, "said PewDiePie in his latest video. PewDiePie then expressed gratitude to his fans who did harmless things with the meme "subscribe to PewDiePie," like buying a million-dollar billboard in Times Square to promote his channel or wear shirts "subscribe to PewDiePie" at the Super Bowl.
But, as noted earlier, some PewDiePie fans pushed the "PewDiePie subscription even" too far. In one case, fans wrote "Subscribe to PewDiePie" on a memorial of the Second World War. "It's so disgusting. It's so disappointing that my name and community are being trained. PewDiePie disavowed the vandalism of the WWII memorial and then donated to the park. PewDiePie hoped it would be the end of people doing negative things on his behalf, but something much worse happened.
On March 15, the shooting at the Christchurch Mosque was carried out by a white supremacist terrorist who killed 50 people and wounded 50 others – the deadliest shootout in New Zealand's history. The shooter broadcasted live attacks on Facebook and, in the live video, he encouraged viewers to "subscribe to PewDiePie".
"Out of respect for families and victims, I chose not to talk about it further than on Twitter, where I disavowed the actions taken that day," said PewDiePie. "To associate my name with something so unbelievably bad affected me more than I could have shown."
"I did not want to pay attention to the terrorist anymore. I did not want to talk about it. […] To put it plainly, I did not want to hate winning. But it's clear to me now that the "subscribe to PewDiePie" movement should be over by then. "
PewDiePie then tackled the pieces of the T series and how the Delhi District Court banned the songs. "Everything was made to be fun, but it's clearly no longer fun. It clearly went too far. And out of respect for that, I'm going to block the videos. "
With this video, it is clear that PewDiePie is trying to stand out from the same "subscribe to PewDiePie" and will probably refrain from promoting its quarrel with T-Series in future videos. It remains to be seen whether PewDiePie fans will comply with his request or whether they will continue their extravagant stunts to help him become the first YouTube channel in history to reach 100 million subscribers. At the time of writing this article, T-Series is beating PewDiePie by more than a million subscribers.
