Michael Cummins, 25, was shot and arrested Saturday night after a long manhunt about one kilometer from one of the crime scenes, officials said.

Investigators said Saturday that police officers responding to a 911 call had found four bodies and one injured in one house and the fifth in another house. Last Sunday, the office announced that two more bodies had been discovered in the first house.

The authorities use to identify the victims. The Tennessean newspaper reported that a 12-year-old girl was among the dead and that many of the victims were close relatives of the suspect.

The victim was in critical condition Sunday night.

"I've been a District Attorney since 1980, and I've never seen anything like it before," said Ray Whitley, Sumner County Attorney at The Tennessean. "Everyone is shocked and upset. It's something very difficult to grasp. "

The BIT thinks that the scenes in the two houses in Sumner County are linked, but it did not reveal any other information about shootings or the type of weapon used.

TBI spokesman Josh DeVine told The Associated Press on Saturday that at least one officer had been shot at Cummins after he was released from the woods, where he was reported to have produced many weapons and the situation was unclear. Was aggravated.

He was then taken to the hospital for injuries that would probably not be life threatening, DeVine said. None of the officers responding to the investigation were injured in the incident.

The Tennessean said that Cummings had a long criminal history and that he had recently pleaded guilty to arson and aggravated assault in July of last year. He also pleaded guilty to domestic assault in August 2017, as well as theft and arrest in April of the same year.

Westmoreland is located near the Kentucky border, about 40 miles northeast of Nashville.
