Some time ago, the Nintendo Switch received its last major firmware update. Version 8.0.0 of the switch software contains features such as software sorting, new icons, and some quality of life improvements. One of the features of Nintendo was a new addition to the "boost mode".
This addition is missing from the patch notes, so you would be forgiven for not knowing that it exists. Some homebrew fans have watched under the hood of the Switch to discover what the boost mode involves. In fact, the boost mode overclocks the switch processor, which typically operates at a frequency of 1 GHz, at 1.75 GHz in some situations. This theoretically allows games to load faster and perform better. After the 8.0.0 update, updates for Super Mario Odyssey and The legend of Zelda: the breath of nature were released. These updates would have reduced the loading times of these games quite significantly.

We do not have concrete numbers on what the boost mode did for Super Mario Odyssey. It should be emphasized here that the software will need to be updated or developed specifically for the boost mode in order to take full advantage of the new overclocking capability. With that in mind, you probably will not notice a huge difference if you start most Switch games after the update.
We do not know yet what Nintendo has in mind for its new Boost mode (if any). It remains to be seen if more games will receive updates to improve load times and performance. We will bring you more news on this as soon as we get them. Until then, you can download firmware version 8.0.1 for your system now. The latter update is incremental and only adds "general improvements in system stability". Nevertheless, the boost mode is so well hidden, you never know what Nintendo has in his sleeve.
