Looking for a sporty alternative to AirPod? The Beats Powerbeats Pro totally wireless headphones will be available for pre-order on Apple.com for $ 249.95 this Friday, May 3rd at 7 am Pacific Time in the United States and Canada.
Powerbeats Pro will be in store a week later on Friday, May 10th. The all-new Beats are powered by the same Apple H1 chip as the AirPods 2, operate with "Hey Siri" and feature sporty features, including longer battery life and physical playback controls.
The Powerbeats Pro headphones are a new entry into the Beats range, joining Powerbeats3 Wireless but with major upgrades including physical and sound enhancements. For starters, the Powerbeats Pro headphones are totally wireless – no cord between each earpiece – just like the AirPods. Here's how Beats describes the sound enhancements:
Entirely redesigned from the inside, the headphones feature an improved linear piston driver that exploits an efficient and pressurized air flow to create a powerful acoustic response in a small package. Improved sound quality means incredibly low distortion and a wide dynamic range over the entire frequency curve.
You can pre-order Powerbeats Pro in one of four colors starting on Friday. Black is available at launch; Ivory, Navy and Moss will follow later this summer. Each pair includes four sizes of interchangeable tips and an adjustable and redrawn ear hook. While the AirPods exceed the 5-hour battery with a single charge, the Powerbeats Pro offer up to 9 hours of power between charges and up to 24 hours of battery life thanks to the magnetic closure case provided.
The totally wireless Powerbeats Pro headphones cost US $ 249.95 in the US, compared with US $ 159 to US $ 199 for AirPods and US $ 199.95 for Cordless Wireless Powerbeats3 Wireless. But unlike the AirPods, the Powerbeats Pro headphones are designed for sweat and water resistance, have a higher volume and adjustable ear hooks, making them ideal for intense workouts.
9to5Mac will have a hands-on preview of Powerbeats Pro later this week, followed by a full review early next week. You can learn more about BeatsByDre.com and pre-order Powerbeats Pro on Apple.com starting Friday. Best Buy also listed Powerbeats Pro before launching on May 10th.
