Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. Kellyanne Conway accused Sunday of "attempting to" feed suspicion "about the religion of the first-year lawmaker after the White House advisor asked why she had not commented on the terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka Easter Sunday.
At an exchange on Twitter, Ocasio-Cortez asked why Conway would have pointed out that she had not tweeted about the bombings, which killed more than 250 people.
"Are you trying to suggest that I'm less Christian, what was the purpose of your talk on national television?" The legislator asked, along with a comment, how she had visited her grandmother in Puerto Rico, "who continues to suffer from the incompetence of the White House in the event of a disaster."
Ocasio-Cortez described the Sri Lankan attack as "horrible" and called Conway to "use this as an excuse to stir up suspicion around my Christianity and my life of faith".
"Nobody should be targeted for her religion," she tweeted. "If you are so moved, let's do more to welcome immigrants fleeing religious persecution."
Mr. Conway initially questioned the widespread use of the term "Easter worshipers" among politicians having expressed their condolences, including former President Obama and Hillary Clinton. Ocasio-Cortez said, "To say that" the Easter faithful count is that Easter is the holiest day of the year for Christians, "and being targeted at Easter highlights how much the attack has been horrible.

In his response, Conway said that it was "good" that Ocasio-Cortez condemned the attacks because she "found it odd that a prolific tweeter was silent" on the subject. Trump's confidante said the two women agreed that places of worship should remain unscathed.
At least 253 people, including several US citizens, were killed and more than 500 wounded after a series of explosions that hit three churches and three luxury hotels on the outskirts of Sri Lanka 's capital at Easter. The attacks have been among the worst since the end of the 26-year civil war in the South Asian country, according to local officials.
