A young boy in the US state of Ohio is commended for his quick actions that saved him as well as his sister from a stolen car on the move.

According to Nine News, 8-year-old Chance and her 10-year-old sister Skylar were at the back of their great-grandmother's car after parking in front of doctors at Middletown, Ohio, Friday.

Nita Coburn took the children's mother to an appointment at the Atrium Medical Center, when the two women left the car.

Police say that a few seconds later, Dalvir Singh, 24, got into Ms. Coburn's car and left with the children still in the back.

Initially, Ms. Coburn had not realized that the two children had escaped and had chased the car, opened the driver's door and tried to stop the thief.

The police alleged that Ms. Coburn was dragged on a short trip when the driver took off.

The police stopped the vehicle shortly thereafter and the driver was arrested.

He was charged with kidnapping, assault and motor vehicle theft.

"This little guy is a hero, no question," said Rodney Muterspaw, Middletown Police Chief.

"He took his sister out of the car without worrying about his own safety."
