The top eight played live on American idol Sunday night, singing two songs. Everybody sang Queen's songs as well as duets of movie songs. Former Idol The second, Adam Lambert, was on hand to guide the contestants in their fight for America's vote, and Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan commented. At the end of the episode, the results were announced live.
The finalists opened the night with a performance of "We Will Rock You". Walker Burroughs then started singing "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and Lambert worked with him to improve his performance. Burroughs seemed softer on stage than usual, coming out of his comfort zone slightly. He presented a show and sang well, his tone tense. "You're right up there yourself," Bryan said, calling the performance "endearing."
Madison VanDenberg was next, singing "The Show Must Go On", which was a great choice for her powerful voice. "Your voice is crazy," says Lambert, encouraging him to showcase the emotions of the song. She followed his advice and gave a performance that was both theatrical and emotional. His huge song was impressive. "You changed the whole game," said Bryan. Richie said his voice was "impeccable". "You have come here," Perry added.
Laci Kaye Booth and Laine Hardy started the duets with a performance of "Jackson" of Walk on the linetheir voices blend well. They both played guitar and had solid chemistry. Both performers are very natural, and the song suits their two hoarse tones. "I felt it," said Perry.
Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon then got up, feeling the pressure of his parents coming to the show for the first time. He sang "Who Wants to Live Forever" and Lambert encouraged him to change the arrangement, advising him not to play the guitar as he originally intended. Instead, Harmon gave an extremely vulnerable performance to the mic. It was sober but powerful. Perry said that he really embodied Freddie Mercury with his performance. "It was such a moving race," said Bryan.
Alejandro Aranda has made a very original arrangement of "Under Pressure" while not changing the classic too much. Lambert was impressed by his creativity, but encouraged him to stick to the melody as much as possible. Aranda has put together a special performance, performing well her vision and making it truly hers. "I love everything you do," Bryan said. "You are an artist," added Richie.
Wade Cota and Alyssa Raghu sang together "Is not No Mountain High Enough", which has been featured in many films, but Idol specifically referenced Guardians of the Galaxy. It was an unlikely match, and they had very different voices, but they still mounted an entertaining duet. The judges found that amusing.
Harmon and VanDenberg teamed up to form the next duet, singing "A Million Dreams" from The biggest showman. They were well matched, both with very powerful voices. Their harmonies were strong and they managed to live great moments without taking each other. "You were doing such a beautiful dance of respect," said Perry.
Hardy was back for his solo singing "Fat Bottomed Girls". Lambert encouraged him to have fun and open, which Hardy greatly improved upon. He had a good command of the scene and his grain was perfect for the choice of the song. "If you do not feel it, pretend," said Richie. "By the way, you've felt it."
Booth was then preparing for his solo by singing "Love of My Life". Lambert worked with her on the arrangement, focusing particularly on her phrasing. She gave a vulnerable and captivating performance of the ballad, accompanying herself on the guitar. "You shine like the diamond we've always known you were, and the most shimmering thing is your voice," said Perry.
Aranda and Burroughs sang "Mrs. Robinson "of The graduation. They made the most impressive harmonies of the night, singing a creative arrangement set up by Aranda. "Your voices are like two peas in a pod. They are so perfectly set up, "said Perry.
Cota followed with his solo. He chose to sing "We Are the Champions". He said it was important to him because he had been playing in bars and restaurants for years. Lambert encouraged him to stay in the microphone during the performance. He delivered an engaging performance of the hit, delivering a strong voice throughout. He made a small lyrical mistake, but Bryan praised the way he recovered. He added that he had heard another dimension of his voice tonight. "You have already won," said Richie.
Raghu closed the evening with a solo performance of "Somebody to Love". Lambert praised her "natural theatricality" and helped her in her demarches and ad libs. She gave a soul performance, drawing on the dynamics of the song. She seemed confident and in control. "You are the embodiment of determination," said Richie.
Then it was time for the results. Raghu and Burroughs were the last two opponents, and the judges had the opportunity to use their only save of the season. They chose not to use the backup, so Burroughs and Raghu were eliminated from the competition.
