US broadcaster Larry King has suffered a heart attack but is recovering, according to reports.

The 85-year-old television host had a heart attack Friday (local time) while he was preparing to go to the doctor for a checkup, TMZ reported. On Tuesday, sources close to King said People he was "well" and was recovering.

"He had an open artery and stents posed … But he's remarkably strong.His doctors even say that they do not know how he bounces so quickly," a magazine source said.

King has a history of heart disease. TMZ said he was going to the doctor for a checkup because of his breathing difficulties, which could indicate heart problems.

He suffered a serious heart attack requiring an open-heart operation while working at CNN in 1987, South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

King has been working in broadcasting since 1957 on radio and television. In 2010, he left CNN and now hosts a show called Larry King now for Hulu and RT.
