Baltimore Colts legend Gino Marchetti has died, the team said on Tuesday. He was 93 years old.
The Hall of Fame's defense died Monday of pneumonia, the Baltimore Sun daily reported. The Baltimore Ravens issued a statement regarding the death of the Pro Football Hall of Famer. His wife, Joan Marchetti, told the media: "I kissed him and he met me and smiled."
"It was the way to say goodbye to Gino."

"A giant of a giant-hearted man who has helped many people in need, Gino Marchetti is at the top or among the biggest stars in the history of football and athletics in Baltimore "said the team in a statement. "Well loved in Baltimore, this Professional Football Hall of Fame member loved our community and the fans they loved. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Joan, and the Marchetti family. We appreciate the kindness and respect that Gino has shown to the Ravens over the past 23 years. "

Marchetti, born in 1926 in West Virginia, was selected for 11 consecutive Pro Bowls and was inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame in 1972, according to the Professional Football Hall of Fame.
The Baltimore Sun said Marchetti "often played badly". He had a broken leg during the team's famous victory in the 1958 NFL Championship match titled "The Biggest Match Ever Played", according to the Professional Football Hall of Fame.

Marchetti joined the army in 1944 and took part in the battle of the Ardennes. He also opened a restaurant called "Gino's" which was later sold to Marriott Corporation.
Marchetti was selected in 1952 by the Dallas Texans and played his last match in 1966, at the age of 40.
He is survived by his wife, children, daughter-in-law, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
