The media broke out Tuesday following the letter to Attorney General William Barr by special advocate Robert Mueller criticizing the characterization of the "key findings" of the Mueller report that he had sent to Congress in March.
The Washington Post first reported Tuesday night that Mueller had sent Barr a few days after the Attorney General's release of the four-page summary saying there was no evidence of conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia in the 2016 election and that the special advocate did not conclude that President Donald Trump had obstructed justice.
Mueller reportedly told Barr that his summary "did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance" of his office's work. Mueller however indicated that the summary was not inaccurate and, according to the Post, he felt that "the media coverage of the letter misinterpreted the investigation".
CNN covered Mueller's letter from one wall to the other during peak viewing hours and MSNBC also devoted the vast majority of his programming to him. Only Rachel Maddow, of MSNBC, managed to devote Tuesday night a segment to the chaotic power struggle in Venezuela between the two liberal cable news networks.
CNN chief legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin criticizes Barr for "distortion"[ing]"and" shap[ing] the public perception of the Mueller report forever "and stated that he could say that" Mueller was pissed off ".
CNN presenters Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon stacked up with the Attorney General during their transfer. Cuomo called Barr and "agent" President Trump instead of the American people, while Lemon called it "political hacking" and "president's mercenary."
"You do not have to be a lawyer to see when you're trying to cover your eyes," Lemon told Cuomo. "It's not necessary to be a lawyer to understand how William Barr got this job, how he auditioned, how he conducted himself at the hearings and how he behaved at the initial press conference with the letter and the second press conference. "
Online, CNN's Chris Cillizza said Barr "is suffering from serious problems". Kim Masters of the Hollywood Reporter called it's a "cover-up".
Meanwhile, MSNBC's Joe Scarborough has gone to Twitter and has asked for Barr's indictment.
"Federal judges have been repeatedly charged and dismissed for committing perjury, making false and misleading statements," hindered an official investigation "and" lying under oath. "These descriptions appear to correspond to William Barr evening ", Scarborough tweeted. "As Robert Mueller told Barr, his misinterpretations of the report mislead the public and undermine one of the fundamental purposes of the Justice Department's appointment of the Special Council." Barr then lied to Congress and the press. . "

A MSNBC guest, Elizabeth Holtzman, compared Barr's "cover-up" to Attorney General John Mitchell, who, she said, was jailed for hiding Watergate on behalf of Richard Nixon.
The hashtags "BarrLied" and "ImpeachBarr" dominated on Twitter, highlighting two separate exchanges the Attorney General had with Democratic lawmakers at Capitol Hill, the one in which he told Florida's representative Charlie Crist, that he was not aware of the various reports The team was frustrated by Barr's summary and another where he told Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen that he did not know not if Mueller supported his conclusion to the report.
