Hulu announced in a presentation to advertisers Wednesday that it now had 26.8 million paying subscribers. It also features new advertising features and several new shows, including two new series featuring characters from Marvel Comics.
Hulu's new "frenzied advertising" experience comes as advertisers increasingly seek to reach their customers in ways that do not disturb or disrupt them. This new format "will allow marketers to target excessive viewers with a creation tailored to their behavior," the company said in a statement.
The company has not described how ads of excessive consumption will be displayed in its initial announcement, but some believe that Hulu will allow advertisers to sponsor an "excessive consumption" session with limited interruption.
Hulu also offers "paused ads," which appear when a user pauses his content on Hulu. The company announced that it would expand the availability of these ads on hold from the month of August.
The company is expected to provide more details on how paused commercials and binge ads will be displayed at NewFronts' presentation in New York on Wednesday.
