"Ghost Rider" and "Helstrom" arrive in Hulu.
The streaming service features two live Greenlit programs based on Marvel comic characters, Variety has learned. Both shows are scheduled to air on Hulu in 2020 and are co-productions of Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, will produce both shows.
Ghost Rider, also known as Robbie Reyes, is consumed by the fire of hell and is supernaturally related to a demon. He lives on the border between Texas and Mexico and when he frees the runner, Robbie takes revenge on the innocent he meets, but strives to control the power he exerts.
Ingrid Escajeda will act as lead producer and executive producer of "Ghost Rider", with Paul Zbyszewski also executive producer.
"I could not be more excited and honored to be entrusted to a beloved Marvel character than Ghost Rider," said Escajeda. "This story is close to my heart: my love for characters both rooted and in conflict and my desire to scare people! The two new series develop an already nascent list of Marvel series on Hulu. The live-action series "Runaways" begins its third season on the streamer. The four characters will then team up in the animated special "Offenders".
The news of the new Marvel shows comes after Disney became majority shareholder of Hulu after the merger of the Fox-Disney merger. Disney is also preparing a number of Marvel Cinematic Universe character-based limited-edition series for Disney's upcoming Disney + streaming service. More recently, Variety exclusively reported that a Hawkeye series with Jeremy Renner is in the works. There are also limited Disney + series in works that will focus on MCU characters such as Falcon and Winter Soldier, as well as Loki, Vision and Scarlet Witch. The series should have six to eight episodes. The series on Disney + will be produced by Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, who has been running the MCU for years. Emissions should also have significant budgets compared to other television projects.
