Huawei plans to release an 8K 5G TV by the end of the year, a new report from Nikkei claims. According to sources close to the company's projects, the set would include a 5G modem to allow it to broadcast remote content directly without the need for a cable box or a fixed internet connection, and could even serve as a router for other Internet networks. connected devices in your home.
Associating a fast 5G connection to an 8K screen could theoretically be a way to overcome the difficulties of streaming 8K content that contains a lot of data without the need for a fixed broadband home connection. With 8K, Nikkei speculates that the TV's 5G connection could also allow them to stream 360-degree video, although this sounds like an absolutely horrible user experience.
Nikkei reports that Huawei would use these 5G TVs to create its consumer electronics ecosystem, similar to what Samsung already has with its range of TVs, smartphones, mobile devices and smart appliances and appliances. Huawei is currently the world's second largest seller of smartphones, behind only Samsung.
If pairing an 8K screen with a 5G connection sounds familiar to you, you may be thinking of the buzzword "AI 8K + 5G" on which Foxconn claims to work in its troubled Wisconsin innovation centers. Technically, manufacturers such as LG claimed that their TVs were powered by artificial intelligence. So it is possible that a new generation of televisions from Huawei – and Foxconn? – could hold vague promise AI 8K + 5G. Huawei loves to slap "AI" on equipment for the show.
Huawei has a lot of work to do if it wants to enter the television market before you consider the futility of integrating an advanced 5G modem into a next-generation display. TVs are known for their low-margin products, and the average consumer TV upgrade cycle is much longer than for laptops and smartphones (although that seems to be changing for them). 2019 is also still very early for 5G and 8K. 5G networks are currently only available in a limited number of locations and native 8K content will still be rare.
Although the 5G 8K TV market is truly a niche in 2019, Chinese smartphone companies have demonstrated their willingness to make serious experiments when they are looking for success. In other words, just because it's a bad idea does not mean it will not happen.
