Chief of Chiefs Tyrann Mathieu meets Keenan Allen and speaks at Tyreek Hill

Kansas City Chief Superintendent Tyrann Mathieu joined SB Nation Radio's Alex Gold on Tuesday to discuss different aspects of the team's offseason. Mathieu hosts his annual celebrity kickball game in New Orleans on May 18th (for more information, click here).

In the middle of the off-season, Mathieu became one of the first Chiefs players available to the media following the Tyreek Hill situation. Mathieu was sincere with Gold when asked about Hill, which was refreshing.

"I think it's bad, man," said Mathieu to Gold. "It's obviously very disappointing. Obviously, I arrived at the chiefs' house with the hope of being able to watch him play football and see him running, catching up on long bombs and leaving everybody behind. You know, it's a very unfortunate situation. I was not very much his team mate, just two or three weeks. So it's not really fair that I comment on his character. I do not think I really know him.

"But as I said, with everything that's out right now and obviously the audio, it's very disappointing, not just from my teammate's point of view, but I'm also a father. It is very disappointing.

Regarding his own off-season, Mathieu described his transition to Kansas City as smooth and he is looking forward to playing in the new system of defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

"I'm so excited," he said. "I can not wait for the whole world to see how [Steve Spagnuolo] will use me this year. I think all that people want to see me [do]. It's like that that they want to see me play football. They want to see me bombing, getting close to the balloon and wreaking havoc. As I said, I have not been so excited since I started in Arizona. It will be fun for me and I can not wait to get back to doing what I do well. "

At Mathieu's introductory press conference, general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid expressed how much they loved Mathieu's character and his sense of leadership.

Mathieu sees in the defensive wing Frank Clark, whom the Chiefs added last week through the trade, as a person who can help him in this regard.

"It's important to add, especially the good pieces – the guys who are [competitors], guys with leadership abilities, "explained Mathieu. "I think every time you can create a culture around a few guys and get guys to believe in themselves more than they believe in themselves, I think you always give yourself a very good chance of winning … I know, Frank and I, we do not like to be little brother. "

And speaking of this, earlier this week, Chargers receiver Keenan Allen explained the Chiefs' defense room. Mathieu did not back down to answer Allen.

"I think in the last three years, the chefs have almost won West Africa," said Mathieu. "I think a lot of recipients feel that way. I think we should really give these guys a reality show, let them talk about their feelings and their emotions, they're pretty much everywhere. He will have a chance to oppose us and play against us. In all honesty, we will never forget what he did. It is therefore easy for recipients to talk a lot. They reach 160 targets a year, so it's easy to catch 90 balls. He is a very good player, he is good for his attack, but yes. I will leave it there.

Gold also questioned Mathieu about what he had seen so far in the Chiefs quarter and the league's most valuable player, Patrick Mahomes.

"It kind of reminds me of Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers," said Mathieu. "He's a guy who can do any throwing. He seizes his chances and he can throw the ball with his hand … left-handed, right-handed, in overhand. The guy is just special. I think he's one of those unique talents: they do not come too often. He is also an excellent teammate: very easy going, always smiling, he is always the first to work. I think it has a big effect, not only on the offensive but really on the whole team and especially on the organization, so congratulations to him, man.

"One of the youngest MVPs of all time, and he's always behaving the right way. He's really not a selfish guy, so, as I said, he's very friendly and approachable. And I think every time a quarterback is like that, I think everyone in the locker room wants to play for that guy. "

Of course, Gold wondered if Mathieu still had the opportunity to try a barbecue in Kansas City.

"It's one of the first things I've done since I've been in Kansas City, almost 14 days now. Basically, I hit all the places to have a barbecue.

"I have my favorite, but I will not share it."
