Christina Applegate was born in Hollywood and began a brilliant career in front of the camera almost immediately after she left her mother's womb. As she told me during her visit to our Deadline studios for this week's episode of The Actor's Side, she made her television debut in the arms of her mother on Days of our lives when she was 3 months old.
Now, more than four decades later, this show is still on the air, but more importantly, Applegate has had much better success in movies, television and Broadway (she was nominated for Tony Sweet charity.) We're talking about all this, including the two things she's most recognized for by fans: playing Kelly Bundy for 11 seasons Married with children, and his role as Veronica Corningstone in both Presenter movies.
In our conversation, we talk about what made Presenter but why she doubts there could be a third payment. We also discuss his extensive television career, including an Emmy win as Rachel's sister Friends; two nominations for Samantha who? a show that died too early but introduced Melissa McCarthy to the world; and his return on television in Netflix Death for me, his first series in six years and the one that starts on the streaming service on Friday. She also tells me that she's learned that if you want to make a show on Netflix, you need to know how to pronounce the word F, as opposed to what she's been used to for years on the television network.
Applegate is particularly proud of the focus put by women on Death for me both in front of the camera (Linda Cardellini is his co-star) and behind. Applegate embodies Jen, a widow recently and determined to find the answer to her husband's death and secret, as well as the secret that lies behind the surface of a new friendship with Judy Cardellini when they meet in a group of support. Applegate said that the return of the television was neither planned nor even desired, but this opportunity to make this comedy very dark was irresistible.
