Epic Games announced today the "signing of a definitive agreement" for the acquisition of Psyonix, based in San Diego, and its 132 employees, who carry out the successful football game Rocket League.
As part of this agreement, the PC version of Rocket League will move to the Epic Game Store "end of 2019," said Epic. "In the meantime, it will continue to be available for purchase on Steam, after which it will continue to be supported on Steam for all existing buyers." Psyonix says that he will continue to sell and support Rocket League on other platforms, including the PS4, the Xbox One and Switch, in the future.

The acquisition of Psyonix is Epic's latest aggressive initiative, which is packed with cash as a result of the massive success of Fortnite. Since the launch of Epic Games Store at the end of last year with a 88% revenue share for developers, the studio has worked to buy many prestigious exclusives for the platform and to offer games free every two weeks to attract customers.
Founded in 2001, Psyonix worked behind the scenes on Unreal Engine games, including Armament of war, Mass effect 3, XCOM: unknown enemy, Bulletstorm, Unreal III Tournament, and 2004 Unreal Tournament. The company did not have a group success in its own name, however, until 2015 Rocket League has become an exceptional version of the year. According to Psyonix, the game brought together 50 million unique players last September and offered a $ 1 million prize pool for its last season of sports esports.
