Advanced Micro Devices has new products in the pipeline, making 2019 a "great year" for the company, said CEO Lisa Su at CNBC on Wednesday.
"We consider that it is an important product cycle and, three or five years later, we have a lot of things in the pipeline," she said in an individual interview. with Jim Cramer from "Mad Money". "We work on a lot of products."
AMD builds the computing chip for Sony's next-generation PlayStation game consoles. Although the PlayStation 5 is not commercialized in 2019, the system will contain graphics and visual effects of better quality, not to mention a faster memory and more extensive, according to Wired Magazine.
The game is a long-term growth market and "good secular" for AMD, said Su.
"What we did with Sony, is really something architect for their application, their special sauce," she said. "This is a great honor for us and we are very excited about what the next generation of PlayStation will do."
The company also supplies semiconductors for the PC and data center industries, she added. The company provides components for Amazon's web services, the Google Cloud Alphabet and various Apple devices. Su said that they were looking to associate with the best in the industry.
AMD is also behind the new Google Stadia game service announced in March. New releases for the middle of 2019 include a Ryzen microprocessor for PCs and an Epyc processor for the data center, said Su.
"It's a year of revenue growth for us," she said. "[We’re] starting at a low point in the first quarter, but strengthening over the next two quarters, our products are still generating extraordinary enthusiasm. From this point of view, that's what we focus on. "
AMD celebrated its 50th anniversary in business on Wednesday. The stock jumped 7% after the company posted solid first quarter results the day before, with forecasts matching Wall Street expectations. The chip maker's shares closed around 3% on Wednesday.
Last week, in its quarterly report, Intel, the competitor of the Intel chip, exceeded analysts' expectations, but the company has proposed a lower revenue forecast for 2019 than expected by analysts. Cramer pointed out that there may be a pause in the growth of data centers for the semiconductor industry, but Su is confident in the long-term strategy.
"With all the data available and all the computing needs, the market is great and he really appreciates cutting-edge technologies," she said. "It is there that we differentiate ourselves. [We’re] really focused on high performance computing. "
AMD has recorded a business turnover of $ 1.27 billion in the first quarter of 2019 and has maintained its forecast for the entire year. The company expects revenues of about $ 1.52 billion in the second quarter, down 13% from the previous year, in part because of lower channel graphics sales, announced the company.
