RENO, NEV. >> Miss North Carolina Cheslie Kryst, a 27-year-old lawyer who represents detainees at no cost, today won the Miss USA 2019 title in a diverse field including teachers, nurses, and community members. army.

Miss Hawaii USA Lacie Choy is ranked in the top 15 by joining the first Samoan-born woman to compete in the event dating back to 1952.

As one of 15 finalists out of 51 candidates, the two women will participate in the late-night retransmission of the parade at 7 pm on Fox / KHON. The field was reduced based on their performance in a series of events earlier in the week.

Choy, a 20-year-old University of Hawaii student, failed to pass the next round, but Miss Nevada Tianna Tuamoheloa, 26, of Las Vegas is qualified for the last five.

Alejandra Gonzalez of New Mexico was seeded first and Triana Browne of Oklahoma was second.

Kryst will represent the United States in the Miss Universe contest. Vanessa and Nick Lachey were hosts of the two-hour national television event that took place at the Grand Sierra casino hotel. Queen Miss USA, Sarah Rose Summers of Nebraska, was crowned the winner.

This is the first time the contest has been held in Reno. Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve was a member of the all-female jury.
