The team rushes to the hospital and Vic discovers that Ripley's sister (Bre Blair) is desperately searching for answers about his brother's condition. His sister is upset to see Vic jeopardize his care by not answering the phone. She asks Maggie to inform her of her condition, leaving Vic completely out of the conversation.
Maggie convinces Ripley's sister to reconsider in time to tell her that Ripley's condition is irreversible. He has signed an order "Do not revive" and wants to die on his own terms. She adds that it is now the best time for everyone to say goodbye.
The hospital is flooded with firefighters throughout the department while Vic is struggling to say goodbye to the man she loves. The episode ends in a heartbreaking conclusion as Vic and Ripley finally get together to allow him to accept his marriage proposal before taking his last breath.
