We had previously mentioned Brown as a potential Eagles target, with Jordan Hicks leaving to sign with the Cardinals. Philadelphia had a hole to fill for the linebacker.
Brown, 29, was originally in the league as the Titans second-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft. He spent four years with Tennessee before signing with the Bills in 2016. Brown's efforts in Buffalo earned him the honors of the Pro Bowl and the second All-Pro team.
Brown left the Bills to sign a one-year contract with Washington in 2017. He played well enough to be relaunched in 2018. Brown was however beaten at the end of the 2018 season before being cut off the season .
It's fair to wonder how good Brown can be for the Eagles. There is certainly something to be optimistic about; In fact, he finished the 2018 season as the third linebacker ranked by Pro Football Focus. Anecdotally, I always had the feeling that Brown was an active advocate when I watched Washington play. It certainly does not lack experience, since it has 74 starts in 94 games played. Brown totaled 632 tackles, 57 tackles for defeat, 32 hits, 20 assists, 17.5 sacks, seven interceptions and six forced fumbles during that period.
Again, the Eagles needed help for the linebackers after losing Hicks and failing to remedy the situation in the NFL draft in 2019. Brown is a serious playtime contender alongside Nigel Bradham. The Eagles still have Kamu Grugier-Hill, L.J. Fort, Paul Worrilow and Nathan Gerry also on the list. The team would also be ready to sign rookie free agent T. T. Edwards. It is as if the team had to be configured as a linebacker.
For those wondering, this signature has no impact on the Eagles' compensatory choice formula since Brown was released by Washington earlier in the off season.

Zach Brown was the highest ranked free agent, regardless of his position.
He reached career highs as a general, defenseman against the race and rank of tackler last season in Washington, missing just 4 of his 95 attempts last year.
He joins the #Eagles as the third highest ranked LB 2018 https://t.co/GI0qVr3P5j

Pure Redskins & Eagles here:
-WAS had outbid the market for Brown in 2018, which gave him a 3 year contract and $ 24 million with $ 10 million
-It was crushed in 2018: 3rd best LB score out of ball by PFF, solid in run-D, cover and tackle
-Is cut after 2018 "to save cap $"
-PHI signed it for a one year contract, with $ 3 million https://t.co/O0iTQjStSR– Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) May 3, 2019
Happy with this signature. To explore this issue further, Brown allowed receptions for 72.9% of the targets and averaged only 8.1 yards per shot. The QB had a rating of 87.4 as a smuggler. These are all the top 20 marks of 2018 (out of 96 qualified LBs) https://t.co/Uh1WOzABqJ

Zach Brown can play in all three positions, he is physical, very productive and will compete to play. Oblique injury last season in Washington but still has a great season, by Pro @PFF .

I love Zach Brown's signature by the Eagles. They now have depth and competition at LB. Howie did a remarkable job in building this list.

The Eagles sign LB Zach Brown. 29 years. His 372 tackles in the last three seasons are second in the NFL with Bobby Wagner.
Washington has released it so that it does not count against the choice formula of comp
