L & # 39; s Official OnePlus Twitter account has just published a short video presentation. The video shows what appears to be a OnePlus 7 (or possibly OnePlus 7 Pro) that falls in a bucket of water.
The video also indicates, in small print, that the described device does not have an IP rating of water resistance.
To date, no OnePlus device has had an official IP rating. The company's usual defense against this omission (and the defense given by Carl Pei for this new device) is that IP certifications cost the company money, which would then be passed on to the consumer. In other words, the company avoids IP ratings as it is more important to keep prices low.
We assume that the video is supposed to prove to consumers that the fact that the device is not IP certified does not mean that you still can not plunge it into a bucket of water and that everything is fine.

Even if (what is) what OnePlus tries to make clear with this teaser, it is very unlikely that it will allay buyers who think that IP ratings are important. IP ratings guarantee buyers that the phone can handle certain things as proven, not by the company selling the device, but by an impartial system (IP certification). That's why IP ratings are so important to them.
This video shows a phone falling into a bucket of water. Even if the video phone is working properly, if you had to do the same with your own OnePlus 7 – and that did not prove to be alive – OnePlus could not be held responsible. In fact, Carl Pei says specifically do not dunk your phone into a bucket of water in this forum post.
