Barney Frank hires Buttigieg, says O'Rourke could "regret he's straight"

Former US Representative Barney Frank said that Mayor Pete Buttigieg's sexual orientation helped him poll the Democrats running for presidential elections, saying that voters would probably credit him with being open and honest about himself.

"His homosexuality is an advantage," Frank Friday told the Boston Globe, who became the first openly homosexual Congressman in 1987.

Frank, 79, who represented Massachusetts in the House from 1981 to 2013 after being a deputy in power, added that while Buttigieg was straight, he did not think he would come out as well.

This "gives people a chance to assert their lack of prejudices," he said.

Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, in Indiana, announced his candidacy for the 2020 presidency last month and quickly rose in polls. Buttigieg was married last year and is the first openly gay presidential candidate in the United States.

"I think Beto O'Rourke may be sorry he's straight," Frank told The Globe.
