- Shelby builds a 600 hp GT-S for the Sixt fleet
>
20 cars will enter some Sixt locations this summer.
Power aficionados might be lucky the next time they play the rental car roulette. The famed Shelby American tuner is paired with Sixt to add at least 20 high-performance discs. Ford Mustang recalls to the renter's fleet in some US states.
The specific Sixt Mustang is called Shelby GT-S. Visually, it is recognizable thanks to a two-tone orange and black paint inspired by the logo of the German car rental company. Some cars are finished in orange with black racing strips; others will wear the opposite combination. Regardless of its color, the GT-S gets a complete kit including a Shelby-specific front bumper and rear fender, a redesigned grille that looks almost like that of a ram, 20-inch alloy wheels , a range of emblems and a redesigned interior with leather upholstery.
The power comes from a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine, designed to produce more than 600 horsepower; Shelby has not revealed any more specific technical details. We know that the eight-cylinder makes the rear wheels spin thanks to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Suspension components from Ford Performance and Brembo front brakes keep the cavalry in check.
According to Sixt, the first batch of 20 cars will be available in parts of southern California, southern Florida and Las Vegas. Shelby has not yet announced plans to build more cars, but the wording of the announcement suggests that the first batch will not be the last. Therefore, fans of other states may have the opportunity to end up sooner or later driving the GT-S.
Each Shelby GT-S will join the company's registry. When their fleet in the Sixt fleet is over, they will return to the tuner's headquarters in Las Vegas and will be sold to collectors. The old limited edition versions of the Mustang developed for car rental companies (including Hertz) have gained considerable value as they age, and the GT-S will probably be no exception. In other words: keep an eye on the local classifieds if you are looking for a classic future.
