the MS Oosterdam docked at the back of the harbor around 6:50 am on Saturday. The vessel struck the rear of the other moored cruise ship. Oosterdam caused minor damage to six back cabins of the veranda deck on the Nieuw Amsterdam and the cruise company has already started repairing. According to articles on social media, the Oosterdam also had some minor damage to the cabins.
Statement by Holland America on the collision between two cruise ships in Vancouver: "Six rear stateroom verandas in Nieuw Amsterdam require repairs in progress.
All necessary repairs are well above the waterline and the airworthiness of both vessels is not affected. " pic.twitter.com/rNq2gjayxW– Jill Bennett (@jillreports) May 4, 2019
Both ships were ending their cruises and the landing process was not delayed. The cruise company said that customers who had been booked in the damaged cabs would be transferred to alternative cabins.
Kate and her husband were on the Oosterdam when he collided, but felt no huge impact. She said that she was having breakfast at that time and was evacuated by staff. She said it was a "weird" accident because she has been on this boat many times in the past. @ NEWS1130 pic.twitter.com/6znto9Ukqp

As the damage is above the waterline, the ships should be able to continue their normal cruises normally. Oosterdam must leave Canada Place before 5:00 pm to reposition itself in its new home port in Seattle, Washington. From there, the Holland America cruise ship will depart for a 7-night Alaska cruise on May 5th.

the Nieuw Amsterdam will also leave the Canadian port by 5:00 pm for a 7 night trip to Alaska. The ship will arrive in Vancouver on May 11th.
Oosterdam joined the fleet in 2003 with a gross tonnage of more than 82,300 and a capacity of more than 2,000 guests. Nieuw Amsterdam is a larger vessel that arrived in 2010 with 86,700 gross tons. The ship has a capacity of over 2,100 in double occupancy.
This is not the first time that two cruise ships from the same cruise company have come up against the harbor. It was not so long ago, we reported that last February, two MSC cruise ships were fighting in the port of Buenos Aires. Read all about this here.
