What really mattered to the UFC on ESPN + 9? Here's one thing or five …
1. Warning: watch the "cowboy" up
For the first time since 2016, Donald Cerrone has had a series of three consecutive victories. Better still, this series includes legitimate opponents belonging to two different weight classes, and it has appeared against all. In fact, he looked so good that even the twinning of the UFC has changed. Instead of trying to use his old broken body as a stepping stone for young talents, we now see him paired with other fun ball heads at the top of the division.
Old Cerrone was good, but Dad Cerrone (36-11 MMA, 23-8 UFC) is something else.
So we are now in a familiar position, wondering if Cerrone "Cowboy" is the title of the UFC title or just a fun guy to incorporate into a main Fight Night event. He insists that it is the old one. If he does not get a title for the next title (or Conor McGregor), he will be "completely disappointed".
But then, the featherweight field is so crowded and the future is terribly uncertain. And you know it would not be the first time Cerrone was disappointed with how the UFC leader was considering him. Help us, Conor. You can be our only hope.
