A 10-year-old Montgomery County child has died and his brother is facing murder after a shootout Saturday afternoon in Conroe, officials said.

The security forces placed the 12-year-old brother in custody Saturday night after an investigation into the shooting death of their brother.

The deputies took the child to the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center for murder, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office announced. The charge was brought a few hours after law enforcement authorities discovered the child 's brother shot and detained him.

Members responded to the call of the shooting around 2:30 pm Saturday in the 10700 block of Stidhman Road in Conroe. They found a 10-year-old boy with a single gunshot wound in his chest.

The emergency doctors started treatment and transported the boy to the hospital where he died.

The sheriff's office first announced that a juvenile suspect was in detention and that the public was not threatened. A few hours later, he announced the murder charge against the 12-year-old brother, whose sex was not stated in a press release.
