Trump says Kentucky Derby decision was not "good"

President Trump had an opinion on the outcome of the Kentucky Derby and shared it – as he does with so many other opinions – on Twitter on Sunday.

"The decision in the Kentucky Derby was not good," he tweeted. "It was a tough race on a wet, slippery track, making it a beautiful thing to watch. Such a reversal is possible only in these days of politically correct. The best horse did NOT win the Kentucky Derby – not even close! "

For the first time in the history of the legendary horse race, the horse that crossed the finish line first was disqualified for interference and stripped of his victory.

The first in the standings, Maximum Security, was disqualified for jumping out of a puddle on the very wet track and slipping outward, preventing his rival, War of Will, from advancing and forcing his runner, Tyler Gaffalione, to pinch his knees just to stay on his horse.

On Saturday at the Kentucky Derby, the stewards watched a video for more than 20 minutes before making their decision: Down came to Maximum Security and up to Country House, an unlikely winner 65-1.

It was the first time that a foul had invalidated a Kentucky Derby victory. Only one other horse was deprived of his victory: in 1968, Dancer's Image was disqualified after a failed drug test several days after the race, forcing the Forward Pass to be named winner.
