Another new era for Fortnite has begun.

A week of treasure hunting in the entire community ended Saturday at around 15:00. AND with a giant bang. The smoking volcano located in the northeast corner of the map exploded and flying debris devastated a number of popular locations, including the town of Tilted Towers and the Retail Row shopping district.

Before the volcano rained its destructive fire, the players gathered around Lake Loot for a different event: the metal plate at the bottom of the old body of water opened and took the players into another kingdom, a kingdom where FortniteBanished weapons apparently live their lives after death.

The episode is just the latest in a long series of events at stake that define both the existence and the popularity of Fortnite. This is a game that changes almost every month into a game that takes place just as much at home as when there is a link between Avengers and a limited time. He organizes a concert in the game without any competitive element.

The players who descended into the vault of Lake Loot found themselves in a huge, mostly empty room, surrounded by pillars. At the top of each pillar, a glass enclosure containing one of the many weapons removed from the game over time, for various reasons (usually related to competitive balance).

The pillars proved to be a voting mechanism. Players inside the vault could use their pick to hack the pillar of their choice. To break one entirely, a group effort was needed, and the first to be hit actually decided on the old weapon to use. Fortnite.

The Drum Gun won. It is actually a machine gun and it was removed from the game – or "used skipped", to use official terminology, in September 2018.

Once the "vote" was over, the players were relocated to the gaming world and the volcano erupted. This map transformation event sets up the end of FortniteSeason 8, which began at the end of February, lays the foundation for the start of season 9.

There was just a little wrinkle. As important and meaningful as the event at stake, not all players have experienced it on their own.

Fortnite developer Epic Games has confirmed this. It is unclear exactly what happened, but the number of players was apparently impacted by the problem so that the studio could offer a quality gift to all those who tried to participate.

And that's another game that changes Fortnite event in the books. Stay tuned for the inevitable parade of teasing while Epic trains us all in Season 9.
