Apple is expected to make significant changes to the structure of its antennas in its 2019 iPhones, said Mint-Ku Kuo analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a note published Sunday.

According to the Kuo report, seen by MacRumors, Apple plans to use modified MPI in handsets rather than the polymer liquid crystal polymer present in the antennas iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR. Kuo believes that the LCP limits the RF performance of handsets due to technological limitations and production issues.

Kuo believes that Apple will still use LCP as the primary material for 5G antennas in iPhones 2020, with production issues affecting the RF performance of LCP antennas being resolved.

Apple should also use LCP material in iPads by the end of 2019, Kuo wrote.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
