INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Committee has selected 28 teams to compete in the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship.
Maryland was selected as the No. 1 seed after finishing 18-1 and winning the regular season championship of the Big Ten Conference.

The tournament begins with two rounds of the first round on May 7th. Eight venues will host the first and second round competitions on Friday, May 10 and Sunday, May 12. Four quarterfinal matches will be played on Saturday, May 18th or Sunday, May 19th. These preliminary round games will take place on the campuses of competing institutions.
The winners of the four quarterfinal matches will advance to the National Semifinals hosted by Johns Hopkins University at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Maryland. The semifinal matches will be broadcast live on ESPN3 at 5pm and 7.30pm. The championship game will be broadcast live on ESPNU on Sunday, May 26 at noon. Boston College (19-1), the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season champion, earned second place in the standings, while North Carolina, VAC's tournament champion , enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed with a record of 15-3. The winner of the Big Ten Northwestern tournament (14-4) completes the first four seeds.
Fifteen conferences, including the American Athletic Conference, the American East Conference, the Atlantic 10 Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference, the ASUN Conference, the Big East Conference, the Big South Conference, The Big Ten Conference, The Colonial Athletic Association, The Ivy League, The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, The Northeast Conference, Pac-12 Conference, Patriot League and South Conference had the conference champions awarded the automatic qualification for the championship 2019. The remaining 13 teams were selected on a general basis.

In 2018, James Madison defeated Boston College, 16-15, at Kenneth P. LaValle stadium in Stony Brook, NY, to win his first national women's lacrosse championship.
