Police officer shot dead in front of Mississippi station

A police officer on duty was shot in front of a police station in Biloxi, Mississippi.

The officer, who has not yet been identified, was shot several times late Sunday night by a suspect who escaped, confirmed to the press agency James Griffin, spokesperson for the Gulfport Police Department.

The suspect is described as being slim, measuring 5 to 7 feet and wearing a black t-shirt, navy blue shorts and a red cap.

According to the authorities, no further information on the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including whether it was targeted, was immediately available.

Biloxi police asked the Gulfport PD to take charge of the investigation.
