Detective Pokemon Pikachu explained: What's wrong with Harry Goodman?

Detective Pokemon Pikachu has come up with an end that certainly deserves an additional explanation, with many key questions still outstanding, including how will there be a sequel to detective Pikachu?

Keeping this in mind, we have broken down the most important moments of Detective Pikachu's end and explained what they mean, why they are important and what you need to know about Tim, Harry, Mewtwo and of course, detective Pikachu.

The true identity of Detective Pikachu

The most important revelation at the end is that it was not really "Pikachu" inside Detective Pikachu throughout the movie. Instead, when the improved Greninja attacked Harry Goodman's car and left him badly injured, Mewtwo used his ability to harbor the human soul inside Pokemon to save Harry … meaning that "Inspector Pikachu" was actually Tim's father.

There are many unanswered questions about this ability of Mewtwo – he can do it what now?! – but we'll get there in a minute. What we do know is that Pikachu gave Mewtwo his consent to save the life of his detective partner and agreed to house Harry to protect him. At the end of the film, Mewtwo is able to separate Harry from Pikachu again and we both see them with Tim at the end of the film as a family reunited safely.

Harry Goodman Actor revealed

The final scene of the film reveals a somewhat surprising twist: Harry Goodman is played by Ryan Reynolds. All of this makes sense when you take into account the above explanation of how Harry really was Inspector Pikachu's sass, but that begs the question: why did not Tim recognized the voice of his father?

The film does not offer simple answers here, but we can think of some explanations. The first option is that it's been so long since Tim and his former father spoke up that he simply did not recognize Ryan Reynolds' style of his father in this strange and exacerbated situation.

The other potential explanation is related to the description of Pokemon Pikachu's detective explaining how Pokemon and humans relate to each other: the emotion. If we consider the conversations of Tim and Inspector Pikachu as more telepathic / emotional communication compared to a direct audible discussion, then it makes more sense that Tim did not "hear" Pikachu of the same way that the public did it.

The powers of Mewtwo

Detective Pikachu presents Mewtwo's ability to put the soul of the man in Pokemon, but how does it work? This concept was actually introduced into the game of Detective Pikachu – so, yes, that means that it is an official canon directly from the Pokemon society that Mewtwo has the ability to play with which body houses which soul.

Howard Clifford's evil plan is to use the R gas to put human souls into the bodies of Pokemon so that humans can have the same abilities as the creatures they live with. It's never clear what happens to the soul of the Pokémon when the human joins him in the same body, but it seems his soul becomes the alpha and the Pokémon stays in the same body, but in beta . (Besides, what happens to the human body when souls get confused and why does it disappear? We'll never know it!)

Fortunately, Mewtwo has the ability to reset everything – including separating Harry and Pikachu – so that we do not have to think too long about the horrible repercussions of this power.

What happens to a sequel?

Now that the souls of Pikachu and Harry Goodman are separated, there is no more "Detective Pikachu" as we know it. The charm of Pikachu and Tim's team was to see a Pokémon and a human communicate with each other to solve their mysteries. Unless a strange bad luck forces Harry to return to Pikachu's body, this end does not install an easy sequel.

Nevertheless, it seems likely that Warner Bros will want to replicate the magic of Ryan Reynolds expressing a cuddly and caffeine-addicted yellow mice in the future, especially if the Pokemon Pikachu detective is a hit. At the end of the video game Detective Pikachu, the mystery of what happened to Harry Goodman is never revealed to Tim. Thus, while the video game will have no problem to mount a sequel, the movie version will have to take decisive steps to get there. The sequel may see our heroes faced with a new mystery where Harry Needs to merge again with Pikachu so that they can interrogate, interrogate and otherwise communicate with Pokemon to solve the case.

Instead of a direct follow-up, it seems much more likely that we will get a live Pokémon movie, shot from the live action, which will also take place in the world of (or around) Ryme City. Joshua Yehl, of IGN, has spoken with Legendary Entertainment's producer, Ali Mendes, on the set of Detective Pikachu, who teased the legendary, Warner Bros.

"[Pokemon is] a universe so rich. There are so many ways to go. We are trying to do the first film well, and once we're done, we'll see where we are, but absolutely. There are many opportunities, "said Mendes, adding," Even the Pokémon themselves, there are eight hundred. We will have many [Pokemon Detective Pikachu]but we want to play with everyone at one time. "
